 Methodist Hospital Appointments

Acupuncture and massage therapy services will no longer be available in the Gibbs Recreation & Wellness Center beginning May 12th, 2012.  Methodist Wellness Services and the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine have agreed to honor the Rice rates and provide massage therapy and acupuncture services at their Methodist Hospital location.  You will be required to fill out new paperwork at this location.  Call 713-441-5980 for appointments.  Be sure to inform them that you are a current Rice student or employee.  Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Massages are offered by appointment only to all Rice students, staff, faculty and their dependents.

* For more information on any of the above massage items, call (713) 348-5194. Payments accepted:  Cash, Checks, Credit Cards, Gift Certificates and Prepaid Massage Cards.  Credit Card payments for massage will be processed by The Methodist Hospital - Wellness Services (TMH-MWS) * One does not need be a member of the Rice Recreation Center to take advantage of Wellness Center services. 

Appointment Policies:  

Appointment cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of scheduled appointment time.  

50% fee (based on price of massage or acupuncture) will be assessed for failure to cancel or a missed appointment. 

$25.00 fee will be assessed for returned personal checks.

The Wellness Center provides departmental chair massage on location to the Rice community! Our licensed massage therapist is available to come to your office to help alleviate stress and back, neck and shoulder pain.  Pricing is $60 per hour with a minimum reservation of 2 hours (total time).   Please call (713) 348-5194 (ext. 2) for more information or to inquire about booking this service.   *(30 minutes will be assessed for travel to and from location. Actual massage time would be 30 minutes less than total time.  Massage hour may be split into 4 - 15 minute massages per person or less to accommodate more people.)  

 

Would you like to be rewarded for getting a massage?   

The Wellness Center now offers prepaid massage cards to Rice students who plan to frequent our massage services. Purchase a $50 card and get 5 minutes of free massage ... purchase a $100 card and get 10 free minutes ... purchase a $150 card and get 15 free minutes. These cards and gift certificates are a great gift for someone special. You can purchase them with cash, check or credit card. Come to the Wellness Center or call us for more details.   *Prepaid Massage Cards have a printed expiration date. Currently, prepaid massage cards are not available for purchase for faculty and staff.

Try the 40-Minute Zone Massage  

No time for a full hour massage? De-stress with this 40-minute table massage focusing on specific areas of concern that is designed to maximize relaxation in a minimum amount of time. Using a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage techniques, the Zone massage is enhanced with lotion to warm the muscles and soothe the therapist's strokes, heated massage stones, warmed moist towels and soothing therapeutic aromatherapy.  

 

Massage Descriptions: 

Chair Massage:  This 15-minute, fully-clothed massage is performed while the client sits on a forward-facing massage chair.  Massage concentration primarily targets tension in shoulders, neck and back.   

Swedish Massage:   A full hour-long table massage characterized by long strokes, friction and kneading of the muscles.  Swedish massage is largely used for stress reduction and to improve circulation.Enhanced with lotion to warm the muscles and smooth the therapist's strokes, heated massage stones, warmed moist towels and soothing aromatherapy.  

Deep Tissue Massage / Sports Massage:  An hour-long therapeutic massage that can help relieve chronic pain by targeting constricted, sore muscle tissue.  This is a beneficial massage for athletes and those needing relief from muscle strain and misuse. Enhanced with lotion to warm the muscles and smooth the therapist's strokes, heated massage stones, warmed moist towels and soothing aromatherapy.                            

Hot Stone Massage:   Goes beyond the physical benefits of a typical massage, it allows for a more balanced and centered state of well-being.  This hour-long massage includes smooth, heated basalt stones and Swedish Massage technique to help release muscle and joint tension, creating a deep state of relaxation. Enhanced with lotion to warm the muscles and smooth the therapist's strokes, warmed moist towels and soothing aromatherapy.  

The Zone:    No time for a full massage?  De-stress with this treatment designed to maximize relaxation in a minimum amount of time.  This 40-minute table massage includes a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massages.  Enhanced with lotion to warm the muscles and smooth the therapist's strokes, heated massage stones, warmed moist towels and soothing aromatherapy.       
 
 

Aromatherapy:    Application of "essential oils" to the skin or with an air diffuser during the course of a massage session. Aromatherapy oils enhance therapeutic effects of massage therapy.   (Included in all table massages)  
 
 

Pre-Natal Massage:    This hour-long pregnancy massage calms the nervous system, providing much needed rest and relaxation with Swedish Massage technique that is safe during all trimesters.  It can also help relieve depression, fatigue and anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
