The Body Project
Striving for the “perfect body?” Maybe it’s time to change your mind-not your body!
The Wellness Center is teaming up with the Rice Counseling Center for The Body Project, a four-session group program aimed at helping women improve their self esteem. This evidence-based program has been shown to not only improve body image, but also decrease unhealthy weight loss practices, as well as promote a decrease in future onset of obesity. Topics in the group include the thin ideal vs the healthy ideal, media's role in body image, fat talk, body activism, and pressures to be thin. The group creates a safe, confidential place to discuss issues related to body image with your peers.
This small group (max 10-12 participants) will be facilitated by a psychologist and dietitian. We will meet weekly for four weeks, and it is important that participants attend all four sessions. Those participating will receive up to $20 in "Wellness Bucks," which can be used for Wellness Center services.
Past participants have provided positive feedback and really enjoyed the group. One person expressed feeling "completely comfortable and inspired to discuss things that I might not otherwise" with their peers.
Spring 2012 dates will be held Wednesdays from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the Wellness Center on the following dates:
March 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th
Please let us know if you would like to sign-up for the program or would like more information.
