Purpose of the program:
The Caregiving program is a peer lead, volunteer organization whose goal is to promote safety and accountability at registered public parties. Much like designated drivers choose to refrain from drinking to make sure their friends get home safe, caregivers volunteer to be sober and respond if someone at a party is in need and get them connected with the appropriate resource. Caregivers are NOT a substitute for REMS or RUPD.
Additional information:
Caregivers receive training where they learn the basic signs of intoxication, warning signs of an alcohol emergency and how to seek help. Trainings are held and organized by Head Caregivers within each college. If you would like additional information regarding the Caregiving program, please email wellbeing@rice.edu or contact your college’s head caregiver.
