Cathryn Councill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined the Rice Counseling Center in 2024, after working on campus at The SAFE Office for almost 7 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences and her Masters in Social Work at the University of Houston. Before working at Rice University, she was employed at The Montrose Center where she provided case management and therapy services primarily to persons in the LGBTQ+ community, those diagnosed with HIV, and clients participating in the intensive outpatient program for substance abuse. She also has extensive experience providing services to persons impacted by domestic and sexual violence, as well as trauma. Cathryn provides therapy services using a combination of radical empathy and compassionate accountability, while taking a humanistic and integrative approach in order to address the unique needs of each individual. In her free time, Cathryn loves swimming, playing games, and spending time with her wife, clowder of cats and her dog, Brick.
